Pink ombre mermaid? nails

I was inspired by this tutorial at Little Nails that I read a couple months ago. However, I neglected to look at the tutorial again before doing it, and I just went at it. Needless to say, this really doesn’t look like a mermaid tail. Still, I think I like the final product. I used so many nail polishes that I don’t want to write it out, but I do know what I used. Ask away if you’re wondering what a color is.  I swatched it on paper and figured out what I was doing wrong. Next time they might actually turn out right!

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Venom Vixen

Sorry I haven’t updated in a while! Since my last post, I finished my shelf exam for internal medicine, started my neurology rotation, lost my phone, aaand it was my birthday. So I’d say I’ve stayed pretty busy. This manicure was done using those nail polish strips by Sally Hansen called Salon Effects in Venom Vixen, which is an intense red snakeskin. I messed up one of the tips, so instead of fixing it, I just covered it with gold glitter using Speciallita Hits MTV in Golden Disco. I’ll admit, I’m being lazy this week.

Oxblood and nude ombre manicure with Essie “Skirting the Issue”

I’ve been really into oxblood red this season, so when I saw Skirting the Issue from Essie’s Stylenomics collection, I got it immediately. This manicure was done with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 140 Peachy Keen with Essie Skirting The Issue on the tips. Usually when I do a gradient manicure, I use a makeup sponge to put the second color on the tips. This time I wasn’t going for subtlety, so I just painted Skirting The Issue on the tips. I’d heard some negative things about Skirting the Issue, but the formula worked perfectly for what I used it for. It does have to be layered, but it dries quickly and has a lovely jelly finish. I can’t wait to try it alone.

On the other hand, this Sally Hansen color is a nightmare to apply. It took me 5 coats just to get something that wasn’t streaky! I have some other Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes that I don’t have trouble with, so I think it’s just this color. Either way, I think I’ll have to replace this color with a different polish.

Mint argyle manicure

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet and China Glaze passion stamped with Konad m60. Halloween may be over but I have a Halloween party to attend this weekend so I need a manicure to match my costume. I’ll show that off on my next post.

Happy Halloween! Nails for a Cleopatra costume

I got a Cleopatra costume for Halloween. I’m not sure if I want to wear it, but I still have this manicure if I decide to wear it. This is Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Golden-I and Migi pens. I just discovered these nail art pens and I’m a huge fan!

Pink, glitter, bows, and black

I have a love affair with black nail polish. I have far too many shades of black nail polish, and I seem to keep collecting more!

I used A England Bridal Veil over a base coat for this manicure. This is the first A England nail polish I’ve used and I really like it. This picture was taken using 2 coats, but I could have gotten away with one. It applies really nicely and has a good consistency.

I sponged Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Strobe Light on the tips. I have this nail polish stocked up (along with China Glaze Ruby Pumps!) just in case it’s ever discontinued, I’m sure you’ll be seeing it again. The little bow motif was from Konad plate m62. Hope you like it!

By the way, I really need an orange polish for Halloween. Any recommendations?

End of summer stripes

So maybe summer technically ended a while ago, it’s still pretty hot in most of Texas. However, we’ve had a couple of chilly days recently, so I’m finally thinking about fall. This was my attempt to transition between summer and fall. I used Julep Toni as the base color. This color has really grown on me. It’s a wearable grey/purple color. The stripes are with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Lightening and Julep Sasha.

I really love the colors of the Julep polishes I have, but I find them really difficult to wear. The first layer is really streaky and it takes a long time to dry. Maybe it’s just the colors that I own that are difficult. Anyone have any opinions about this brand?
